Poem-a-Day, Entry 329--

Nashville Airport, 3 AM--

Once more gone,

and though the days till I return

are still plastered on the billboards beyond,

shifting and heedless of my pleas to tarry

   just a while longer,

                         I count now minutes,

          where the hours once lived,

and begging an audience with my captors

who in truth are captives just the same,

            occupying not only my lot,

                            but as well their own,

we watch the world flash by,

                            while the distance remains.
